   Sedikit lagi kurang kerjaan, nih. (Bo’ong, kerjaan sih banyak, cuma males aja hehe…)

   Gw abis beli buku di Times bookstore. Desain kantong plastiknya lucu yah! Ada nama pengarang-pengarang terkenal gitu. Waktu ngebacanya, rasanya hebat gitu kalo gw bisa ngenalin nama-nama itu. Tapi masalahnya, banyak yang gw nggak kenal. Karena lagi nganggur, akhirnya gw pun mencari tahu tentang buku-buku yang mereka tulis. Nggak semuanya sih…

Anyway, let’s begin…

Agatha Christie: Penulis novel detektif. (Yang doyan baca Conan pasti tau deh, hoho ) Buku terjemahannya banyak dijual di Gramedia. Contoh-contoh karyanya adalah The ABC Murders, And Then There Were None, N or M?, buku-buku Hercule Poirot (contoh: The Mysterious Affair at Styles), dan masih banyak lagi. Satu-satunya yang pernah gw baca cuma And Then There Were None yang menurut gw bagus, hehe.

Charles Dickens: Penulis dari zaman Victoria, biasa menulis ceritanya dalam beberapa serial. Karya-karyanya termasuk Oliver Twist , David Copperfield dan A Tale of Two Cities.

Danielle Steel: Penulis dari banyak novel drama dan roman. Beberapa adalah Matters of the Heart, One Day at a Time, Leap of Faith, dan Safe Harbour. Beberapa novelnya sudah diadaptasi menjadi film.

Edward de Bono: Seorang physician, pengarang dan konsultan yang memperkenalkan konsep "lateral thinking" dan ide-ide lain mengenai pemikiran dan pendidikan, contohnya Six Thinking Hats. Gw dulu pernah dijelasin tentang ini di sekolah - jadi kita memikirkan ide kita untuk menjawab suatu persoalan lewat enam sudut pandang yang berbeda, masing-masing dilambangkan oleh sebuah "topi berwarna". Beberapa bukunya adalah How to Have a Beautiful Mind, Lateral Thinking: Creativity Step by Step, dan Simplicity.

Dan Brown: Siapa yang nggak kenal dia sih? Penulis buku-buku yang berhubungan dengan kode, simbol, dan mengaitkan unsur Kristiani seperti Da Vinci Code, Digital Fortress dan Deception Point ini pasti nggak asing lagi buat kita. Apalagi film Angels & Demons sudah dibuat versi filmnya tahun ini - dan buku barunya, The Lost Symbol, akan segera terbit.

John Le Carre: Penulis novel spy-fi yang dulunya pernah bekerja sebagai anggota Military Intelligence. Beberapa karyanya termasuk A Most Wanted Man, A Murder of Quality, dan The Russia House.

Ernest Hemingway: Novelis Amerika dari zaman perang dunia pertama dan kedua ini pernah memenangkan hadiah Nobel dalam literatur dan juga penghargaan Putilizer. Beberapa karyanya adalah The Old Man and the Sea dan The Snows of Kilimanjaro.

Enid Blyton: Penulis berseri untuk anak-anak. Karyanya yang terkenal adalah The Famous Five series (atau kita kenal sebagai… Lima Sekawan. Sounds familiar?), Malory Towers dan St.Claire series.

Mitch Albom: Penulis ini terkenal dengan buku-bukunya yang mengharukan, seperti For One More Day, The Five People You Meet in Heaven dan Tuesdays with Morrie. Gw sendiri udah membaca dua buku terbarunya. Ia juga seorang musisi dan penulis buku olahraga.

Michael Crichton: Penulis sci-fi dan techno-thriller. Beliau adalah penulis dari buku-buku seperti Disclosure, The Andromeda Strain, Next, dan sebuah serial yang sudah diadaptasi ke versi film oleh Steven Spielberg - Jurassic Park.

C.S. Lewis: Penulis kristen yang terkenal dengan serial The Chronicles of Narnia yang beberapa telah diadaptasi dalam film. Ia adalah sahabat dekat J.R.R. Tolkien, penulis The Lord of the Rings.

Roald Dahl: Penulis cerita anak-anak seperti Matilda, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Twits, James and the Giant Peach, dan Fantastic Mr.Fox. Juga menulis autobiografi tentang kehidupan sekolahnya dan saat ia pergi berperang dalam Boy dan Going Solo. Buku-bukunya sering dipakai di sekolah gw buat pelajaran bahasa Inggris, tapi gw lebih suka buku koleksi cerita pendeknya seperti Umbrella Man and Other Stories dan Skin.

J.K. Rowling: Oh, her name is self-explanatory! Kalau masih belum ngeh juga dia siapa, biar gw sebut nama ini: Harry Potter.

George Orwell: Nama aslinya sih Eric Arthur Blair. Beliau adalah penulis yang sering menceritakan tentang masalah diktator dan pentingnya demokrasi, seperti dalam salah satu bukunya, 1984. Ucapan "Down with Big Brother" dan "Big Brother is watching You" berasal dari buku ini.

Tony Buzan: Konsultan pendidikan yang memperkenalkan konsep "Mind Map" dan menulis tentang cara-cara memperkuat ingatan juga kemampuan otak lewat buku-bukunya.

Truman Capote: Penulis dari Breakfast at Tiffany’s dan In Cold Blood. Teman dari Harper Lee, penulis dari To Kill a Mockingbird.

J.R.R. Tolkien: Berawal dari buku The Hobbit, ia pun menulis sekuelnya yang berlanjut menjadi serial The Lord of the Rings. Sahabat dekat C.S. Lewis, penulis serial Narnia.

Jane Austen: Penulis dari Pride and Prejudice yang terkenal di sastra Inggris.

Paulo Coelho: Penulis dari Brazil yang terkenal dengan buku-bukunya yang membangkitkan inspirasi, seperti The Alchemist, The Witch of Portobello, The Pilgrimage dan The Devil and Miss Prym. Gw udah baca The Alchemist, Witch of Portobello, dan Like the Flowing River yang merupakan koleksi tulisan-tulisan pendeknya. Tulisan-tulisan dan bukunya bisa dibaca dan di-download di websitenya dengan gratis.

Mark Twain: Penulis dari The Adventures of Tom Sawyer dan Adventures of Huckleberry Fin.

Harper Lee: Penulis wanita dari To Kill a Mockingbird yang memenangkan Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Stephen King: Penulis cerita horor yang terkenal, banyak bukunya yang sudah dibuat menjadi film. Beberapa karyanya adalah Carrie, The Shining, Misery, The Dark Tower, Just After Sunset, dan banyak lagi. Yang terbaru adalah Stephen King Goes to Movies yang menceritakan pendapatnya mengenai adaptasi film dari karangannya, dan sebentar lagi akan terbir Under the Dome.

Jamie Oliver: Atau dikenal "The-Naked-Chef", seorang koki yang sering muncul di acara TV dan menulis tentang… well, masakan.

William Shakespeare: Tentu kita semua tahu penulis drama dan puisi sonnet klasik yang terkenal ini. Dramanya beragam mulai dari romance seperti Romeo and Juliet (yang terkenal dengan kutipan "Where art thou, Romeo?" dan "What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other word would smell as sweet", hehehe), komedi seperti All’s Well That Ends Well, tragedi seperti Hamlet, dan sejarah seperti Henry.

   Wah, capek! Masih banyak lagi sih sebenernya, seperti Tom Clancy, Anthony Burgess, Margaret Atwood, dan lain-lain. Tapi gw rasa hari ini cukup segini dulu deh. Gimana nih? Dari list di atas, berapa yang kalian tahu dan pernah baca bukunya? (Well, for me - I ‘know’ 16  people waktu pertama liat, tapi yang gw pernah baca bukunya cuma setengahnya! Oops…)

   Whoa, akhirnya gw selesai juga mencapai target gw - membaca 50 buku dalam tahun ini! Awalnya gw kira bakal selesainya pas-pasan akhir tahun atau malah nggak keburu, tapi ternyata berhasil juga. Karena tahun ini masih panjang, kayaknya bakal gw extend goal-nya jadi 70 aja kali ya, hohoho.

   Anyway, karena gw nggak sempet buat bikin review untuk setiap buku, gw list aja ya 50 buku yang udah gw baca ya. Review buat 20 buku pertama bisa diliat di kategori Review. Yang di-bold adalah buku-buku yang gw suka. Let’s go!
